Penny Hatzimanolakis received her education at the University of British Columbia (UBC), completing both a Bachelor (2004) and Master degrees (2009) in Dental Science.In 1994, she obtained her diploma from Vancouver Community College in Dental Hygiene.
At UBC, she is involved in both the Dental (DMD) and Dental Hygiene (DHDP) Programs.She is the DMD 2nd and 3rd year coordinator of thePeriodontal Instrumentation Module and in the DHDP, she takespart in all four years instructing in numerous courses from dental anatomy to online evidence based practice.She also practiceswith a periodontal/prosthetic specialty team for the last 16 years.In addition, she created a consulting company, UpScale Consulting,to assist Dental Hygienistsand their teams to achieve the highest standard of care.
She also assists the profession via her study club,VIP,which isaffiliated with theSeattle Study Club.
Her research focuseson periodontal disease and the use of photodynamic/photodysinfection therapy but isalso involved in multi-aspectsof research from dental implants to oral-self care.She haspublished and co-authored in multiple journals.
Professor Hatzimanolakis isdedicated to both the studentsand Faculty.She is the Chair of theAdmissionsCommittee,as well asaFaculty Advisor.She wasawarded thePart-Time Faculty TeachingAward in 2012.Within the dental community, she is theBritish Columbia?sDental Hygienist Representative on thePacific Dental Conference (Scientific conference) Organizing Committee since 2007.
